Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Early-Career Air Quality Engineer to join our Richmond, VA office.

You will apply your education to real-world environmental projects, performing air quality permitting, modeling, and compliance tasks while developing business skills in a consulting environment. You will work on inventories, permit applications, regulatory analyses, and modeling, with opportunities for fieldwork and travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of air quality permitting and compliance experience.
  • Experience with air quality modeling (SCREEN3, AERSCREEN, and AERMOD).
  • Strong spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Experience with air quality permitting in Texas (required) and Louisiana (preferred).
  • Experience in environmental compliance services (stormwater, spill planning, hazardous waste) is a plus.
  • Valid U.S. driver''s license and a good driving record for travel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare air emissions inventories and environmental compliance reports.
  • Prepare emissions calculations and air permit applications.
  • Conduct regulatory analyses related to federal, state, and local air regulations (CAA, NESHAP, NSPS).
  • Conduct air dispersion modeling analyses.
  • Support environmental permitting and compliance services in related disciplines.
  • Fieldwork up to 20%, overnight travel up to 20%.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preparing air emissions inventories and environmental compliance reports;
  • Preparing emissions calculations and air permit applications;
  • Conducting regulatory analyses related to federal, state, and local air regulations regarding Clean Air Act, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs), and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS);
  • Conducting air dispersion modeling analysis;
  • Performing analyses related to air pollution control systems and source monitoring and measurement requirements; and
  • Providing environmental compliance and litigation support services, such as compliance audits and reviews, hazardous waste and material management.
  • Training: This position requires health and safety, first aid, CPR, and other training, as well as medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our employees to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 20%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

Additionally, the selected candidate may be asked to support environmental permitting and compliance services in related disciplines, such as those driven by the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental or chemical engineering or an aligned scientific discipline. (required)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred)
  • Advanced degree in environmental or chemical engineering. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of air quality permitting and compliance experience with an environmental consulting firm. (preferred)
  • Experience with air quality modeling (SCREEN3, AERSCREEN, and AERMOD). (preferred)
  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension. (required)
  • Experienced in air quality permitting and air quality compliance in Texas (required) and Louisiana. (preferred)
  • Experience in environmental compliance services (stormwater, spill planning, hazardous waste, etc.) and compliance auditing. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $67,165/year / Maximum Salary: $97,220 /year (Richmond, VA)
