The Air Instrument Technician Associate is distinguished from the Air Instrument Technician in that the Associate performs basic technical work that includes filter installation, filter collection, operation, and maintenance of sampling units during the week. The position is grant-funded and full-time at 30 hours per week, with scheduled work five days a week which includes frequent weekend and holiday schedules.

Work is typically performed in a combination of office and field environments, driving a county-issued vehicle, with occasional exposure to fumes, smoke, and dust; work is frequently performed outdoors and may be performed during periods of high temperatures and humidity, including days when the temperature exceeds 110° F. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, climb, balance, or crouch. May be required to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays. Must have sufficient manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment. Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, and multiple and complicated tasks. Must be able to maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor. Protective equipment required: Safety boots, full-face respirator, Tyvek® suit, gloves, earplugs, dust masks, safety glasses, hard hat.
