The HVAC Supervisor leads and participates in advanced or expert levels of operation, maintenance, repair, diagnosis, trouble-shooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance involving commercial-level heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs operational and preventive maintenance of complex of commercial-level HVAC equipment and systems;

  • Performs critical repairs to complex systems, equipment, and related features to maintain system integrity and functions in accordance with standards, rules, and regulations, particularly those systems or equipment operated under permits or licenses granted by other governmental agencies;

  • Serves as system technical expert in the maintenance and modification of complex commercial-level equipment and systems involving HVAC work;

  • Interprets and applies required codes or standards to work situations, using complex blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to facilitate work;

  • Prepares working sketches, drawings, and estimates of resources required for assigned projects and recommends modifications to current equipment, facilities, processes, and systems to engineering and support staff and management, to enhance operability, reliability and/or compliance with industrial or governmental standards;

  • Coordinates equipment and system modifications or maintenance with operations and maintenance staff, supported facility managers, or end-users, to ensure minimal disruption of services;

  • Participates in development of Requests for Proposals and contracts for equipment, supplies, and services;

  • Inspects, services, and maintains common and specialized tools, equipment, and vehicles used in performance of duties;

  • Maintains comprehensive records of work performed, modifications to equipment or systems, and related operations logs;

  • May collect samples of process materials for analysis or to monitor proper functioning of the systems supported via anual, mechanical, or electronics means.

Minimum Qualifications:

Eight years of journey-level experience in HVAC projects INCLUDING two years of lead or supervisory experience.

(Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the HVAC specialization may substitute for two years of the above experience requirement.)

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Four years with Pima County in an HVAC Specialist or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment INCLUDING one year of lead/supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum six (6) years experience in diagnostics of refrigerant systems, HVAC, and service work.

  • Minimum six (6) years experience with/knowledge of chillers, low temp, compressors, industrial, and commercial systems, operation and maintenance.

  • Minimum four (4) years of HVAC supervisory experience.

  • Experience with/knowledge of Maximo and Workday software programs.

  • Universal certification in proper refrigerant practices. (Copy of certification should be uploaded with application.)

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license isrequiredat time of application.** Valid AZ driver license isrequiredat time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review todetermineapplicant’s suitability tooperatecounty vehiclesin accordance withPima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain andmaintainthe required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.Must possess a current EPA Section 608 Universal Certification at time of hire or must be able to obtain the EPA Section 605 Universal Certification within the probationary period of employment (12 months). Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment, or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The ability to obtain a jail pass is required. The Countyrequirespre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Physical/Sensory Requirements: Some positions require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; safely wear required safety clothing/equipment; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors. Other physical and sensory requirements will be determined by position. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping; Motion Activity - grasping; Hearing Activity - in a noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves, equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone, on the radio; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, may be required to get a CDL, operate a forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors, have depth perception and peripheral vision. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:Works in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold. Works in the presence of obnoxious odors; works with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products. Other working conditions will be determined by position. May perform duties at a correctional facility/detention center and other high secure areas.
