DHL Global Forwarding in Austin, TX, is seeking an Air Import Specialist to manage international air import shipments from arrival to delivery. You will ensure regulatory compliance, timely cargo release, and proactive customer communication in a fast-paced freight forwarding environment.

You will coordinate documentation, customs clearance, and final delivery while maintaining high service standards and collaborating with carriers, brokers, and warehouses.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in airfreight import operations.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. import regulations, CBP procedures, and air cargo operations.
• Familiarity with CargoWise or similar systems.
• IATA, FIATA, or related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate end-to-end processing of air import shipments, including pre-alerts, documentation validation, and cargo release.
• Review and process AWBs, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and other required docs.
• Manage Customs clearance activities in line with CBP and other agency requirements.
• Track and trace inbound cargo and provide timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate final delivery with truckers, warehouses, and ground handlers.
• Ensure compliance with TSA, CBP, FDA, USDA, EPA, and company policies.

Job Title: Air Import Specialist

Job Location: Austin, Texas

Position Summary

The Airfreight Import Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating international air import shipments from arrival to final delivery. This role ensures timely cargo release, regulatory compliance, exceptional communication, and smooth operational execution within a fastpaced freight forwarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Import Operations

• Coordinate endtoend processing of air import shipments, including receiving pre-alerts, validating documentation, and securing cargo release.
• Review and process AWBs, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and other required documentation.
• Manage Customs clearance activities in alignment with CBP and other government agency requirements.
• Track and trace inbound cargo, ensuring timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Arrange final delivery to consignees and coordinate with truckers, warehouses, and ground handlers.
• Handle special cargo requirements, including temperature-controlled, hazardous, oversized, or high-value shipments.

Customer Service

• Serve as the primary import contact for assigned customers, providing accurate shipment status and resolving issues proactively.
• Advise customers on documentation, clearance requirements, duties/taxes, and any delays or exceptions.
• Maintain strong customer relationships through responsive communication and high service standards.

Carrier, Customs Broker & Vendor Coordination

• Communicate effectively with airlines, ground handlers, and warehouse facilities to ensure cargo availability and timely release.
• Work closely with Customs brokers to facilitate clearance and ensure full compliance.
• Monitor carrier performance, elevate service failures, and coordinate solutions.

Compliance & Quality Control

• Ensure all import activities comply with TSA, CBP, PGA (FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.), and company policies.
• Maintain accurate and complete shipment records for audit readiness.
• Follow SOPs, QHSE standards, and security protocols.

Financial Responsibilities

• Prepare and issue timely and accurate billing and cost entries.
• Verify vendor invoices, resolve discrepancies, and assist with financial reconciliation processes.
• Support margin protection through efficient routing and cost-control measures.

Qualifications

Required

• 1-3 years of experience in airfreight import operations within the freight forwarding industry.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. import regulations, CBP procedures, and air cargo operations.
• Familiarity with freight forwarding systems (CargoWise or similar).
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment with strong attention to detail.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred

• Experience in Customs documentation or basic brokerage knowledge.
• IATA, FIATA, or industry-related certifications.
• Hazardous materials (DG) handling awareness.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or a related field.

Pay Range: $21.23 - $28.31/hr. (Based on Experience)
