Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dependable Cargo Handler to perform ground operations at Cedar Rapids. You will load/unload cargo on aircraft, transfer freight on the ramp, and handle freight with care while adhering to security procedures.

You will read off-load sheets, operate powered equipment, and work in a high-noise environment with rotating shifts, including weekends. HS Diploma or GED is required; valid driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Load and unload cargo, including mail, express, baggage, freight, and company material, on and off aircraft
• Transfer cargo on the ramp as required
• Receive, deliver, and physically handle freight and company material
• Complete forms and messages necessary for assigned functions
• Assist in loading, unloading, and racking filled and empty drums
• Perform routine cleaning of work areas, ramps, and facilities, with or without powered equipment
• Assist in monitoring facility security
• Comply with WFS site security procedures for assigned warehouse and other operations
• Monitor staff, security contractors, and visitors’ activities
• Report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, and site-security-plan non-compliance to managers or through the WFS whistleblower program
• Read off-load sheets to determine cargo destinations
• Transport cargo to and from aircraft using a vehicle and attached carts

Requirements

• HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to successfully communicate with others
• Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
• Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and days off
• Ability to work in a high-noise level environment
• Ability to pull, push, and lift bags weighing up to 70 lbs. onto or from a conveyor belt
• Ability to work in variable weather and environmental conditions, including jet engine fumes, vehicle emissions, dust, and jet engine noise
• Ability to load and unload cargo weighing up to 70 lbs. and position loaded containers weighing up to 3,200 lbs.
• Ability to drive a 3,000 lb. vehicle with attached carts through congested areas
