As a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant, you will:

  • Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Help the patient to maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Assist in feeding the patient when needed.
  • Assist the patient in ambulation.
  • Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with certain treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and as allowed by state regulations.
  • Attempt to promote patient’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest.
  • Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
  • Report any changes in the patient’s mental or physical condition or home situation to the RN and team.
  • Demonstrate basic care to the primary caregiver.
  • Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
  • Provide accurate documentation with visit itineraries.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Participate in at least one Quality Improvement activity yearly, as assigned.
  • Complete documentation promptly as outlined in orientation.
About You

Hospice Aide/ CNA Requirements:

  • Compassionate, kind, and empathetic to patients and families.
  • Comfortable providing care wherever the patient calls “home”.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and composure during crises.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Six (6) months of patient care experience preferred in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatric, or oncology settings.
  • Additional experience helpful: hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float pool, ER, critical care, cardiac, nursing home, etc.
  • Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
