Job summary

The Burns Companies seek an AI Systems & Integration Engineer to design, build, and optimize AI-enabled business systems across multiple units. You will turn business needs into scalable, secure solutions leveraging APIs, databases, and automation.

You will work hands-on across AI development, system integrations, and data workflows, collaborating with leaders to translate requirements into production-ready platforms.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and integrating business technology solutions.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, JSON, system integration, and API-based architectures.
• Practical database experience including PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, SQL, and data warehouse concepts.
• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with Node.js and React.
• Experience with AI/ML applications, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows.
• Experience with AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
• Experience with low-code/no-code and AI-assisted development platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, integrate, and maintain business applications, AI solutions, automations, and system-to-system integrations.
• Develop and consume APIs, webhooks, and data services to connect internal and third-party systems.
• Design and build relational databases, data models, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehouse/data integration solutions.
• Build AI-native applications and agentic workflows using LLM APIs, RAG, tool/function calling.
• Develop practical solutions using Python and, as appropriate, Node.js, React, and low-code/no-code platforms.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate application development and deployment.
• Improve existing systems and processes through hands-on development and automation.
• Manage vendors, contractors, and development resources when required.
• Design and evaluate data structures, integrations, data flows, and testing for reliability and security.

** AI SYSTEMS & INTEGRATION ENGINEER **

Role: Hands-on technical builder responsible for designing, building, integrating, and improving business systems, data infrastructure, automations, and AI-enabled applications across a multi-business-unit organization.

Role Overview

The AI Systems & Integration Engineer is responsible for turning business requirements into working technology solutions. This is a highly hands-on role spanning AI application development, APIs and system integrations, databases, data workflows, automation, and business applications.

The ideal candidate can move from business problem to technical design to working solution, while maintaining the reliability, security, scalability, and usability required for production systems.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, build, integrate, and maintain business applications, AI solutions, automations, and system-to-system integrations
• Develop and consume APIs, webhooks, and data services to connect internal and third-party systems
• Design and build relational databases, data models, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehouse/data integration solutions
• Build AI-native applications and agentic workflows using LLM APIs, RAG, tool/function calling, and related technologies
• Develop practical solutions using Python and, as appropriate, Node.js, React, and low-code/no-code platforms
• Use AI-assisted development tools and platforms to accelerate application development and deployment
• Improve existing systems, workflows, data quality, and operational processes through the hands-on practical development and release of automation and technology
• Manage technical vendors, contractors, and development resources when required
• Design and evaluate data structures, database integrations, data flows, and testing methods for reliability, performance, security, and data integrity.
• Collaborate with leadership and business stakeholders to translate operational needs and user stories into scalable technical solutions; provide technical clarification where requirements are incomplete or ambiguous, while maintaining a focus on solution design, development, integration, and implementation.

** Required Skills & Experience **

• Demonstrated hands-on experience building and integrating business technology solutions
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, JSON, system integration, and API-based architectures
• Practical database experience including PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, database design/build-outs, SQL, and data warehouse concepts
• Working proficiency in Python and familiarity with Node.js and React
• Hands-on experience developing or deploying AI/ML applications, LLM integrations, or agentic/AI-native workflows
• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, or comparable AI APIs
• Experience with low-code/no-code and AI-assisted development platforms such as Retool, Flowise, Cursor, Zapier, or Make
• Familiarity with production integrations and services such as Redis, SendGrid, Twilio, or comparable platforms
• Understanding of relational database architecture, data modeling, PostgreSQL/SQL, data warehouse concepts, and how applications and APIs interact with databases.
• Strong systems thinking, troubleshooting, security awareness, and problem-solving ability
