Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s CERT Division seeks an AI Security Researcher to advance AI safety, robustness, and vulnerability discovery on a national scale. You will collaborate with government partners, researchers, and industry to push AI security forward.

Responsibilities include developing robust AI analysis methods, reverse engineering malicious code, and co-authoring research proposals. Travel and security clearances apply; CMU offers strong benefits and a mission-driven culture.

Qualifications

  • BS in machine learning, cybersecurity, statistics or related field with 3+ years experience or MS with 1+ year.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and impact in AI/ML and cybersecurity.
  • Experience applying cybersecurity knowledge to vulnerability research, analysis, or mitigation.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML software packages and tools listed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop state-of-the-art approaches for analyzing robustness of AI systems.
  • Reverse engineer malicious code to support high-impact customers and research.
  • Design new analysis methods and tools; address emerging AI security threats.
  • Study AI security and vulnerability disclosure ecosystems.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of tools and processes across industry and research.
  • Publish results and aid transition of government-funded technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI to cybersecurity research.
