Job summary

Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh seeks an AI Security Researcher to advance AI security research and cybersecurity capabilities across academia, industry, and national security. Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in machine learning, cybersecurity, statistics, or related field with years of experience
• Experience applying cybersecurity knowledge toward vulnerability research, analysis, disclosure, or mitigation
• Experience advising on security topics based on research and expert opinion
• Familiarity with applying AI/ML techniques to solving practical problems
• Familiarity with AI/ML software packages and tools (Numpy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, ART)
• Knowledge of reverse engineering tools (Ghidra, IDA Pro)
• Experience with Python, C/C++ or low-level programming
• Experience developing evaluation frameworks for AI security technologies
• Excellent written and oral communication; mentoring capability

Responsibilities

• Develop state of the art approaches for analyzing robustness of AI systems.
• Apply these approaches to vulnerabilities in AI systems and attacker tradecraft.
• Reverse engineer malware in support of high-impact customers and design new analysis tools.
• Study AI security ecosystems and vulnerability disclosure processes.
• Evaluate effectiveness of tools and processes from industry and research.
• Uncover fundamental assumptions in AI security best practices.
• Publish results and aid in testing and transitioning government-funded research.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI to improve cybersecurity research.
