Job summary

datadotorg in San Francisco, CA is seeking at least two founding Program Officers for AI Resources, generalists who will be the team lead’s right hands across operations, grantmaking, research, strategy, and partnerships. You will report to Lennart Heim, Director of AI Resources.

You will shape the portfolio, scale AI resources to grantees, and integrate AI resilience with biosecurity, cybersecurity, and model safety while advancing the future of philanthropy.

Qualifications

• Doer with generalist range: high execution, able to switch between operations, grantmaking, research and strategy.
• Follow frontier AI capabilities and risks with independent judgment for grantees and internal stakeholders.
• Take the AGI trajectory seriously with a view on how capabilities will develop and the role of compute.
• Fluent in the technical layers (data centers, compute, AI models, infrastructure) to sanity-check requests.
• Deep familiarity with AI resilience, safety, and security ecosystems, ideally with an existing network.
• AI-native: you use AI tools by default and seek ways to automate routine work.
• Deeply mission-aligned and excited to help ensure AGI benefits all of humanity.

Responsibilities

• Do research on what the AI resources portfolio should look like and identify actions to take now to shape the team’s strategy.
• Help scale AI resources to grantees and explore implications for philanthropy, safety, and resilience.
• Conduct research that informs program strategy: returns to AI resources, demand from grantees, and value creation.
• Support grantmaking end to end, including investigations and diligence.
• Identify projects and organizations to exist in this space and help build the team.
• Collaborate with the AI Resilience team on biosecurity, cybersecurity, model safety, and related issues.
