Job summary

OpenAI Foundation is seeking a Program Officer for the Catalytic Deployments team to drive philanthropic investments and strategic initiatives. You will work closely with the Head of Catalytic Deployments to guide grants, multi-year initiatives, and new institutions aimed at advancing AI for social good.

The role requires leadership in the nonprofit/philanthropy space, strong judgment, and the ability to operate with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of leadership experience in nonprofits, philanthropy, or government.
• Subject matter expertise in at least one social sector domain (public health, education, poverty alleviation, economic mobility).
• Ability to assess AI capabilities, implementation constraints, and organizational readiness in civil society.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Catalytic Deployments strategy; own areas over time.
• Source, evaluate, and recommend grants and funding opportunities; perform diligence on organizations and leaders.
• Support a growing portfolio of grants with clear prioritization and strong follow-through.
• Engage with external experts, nonprofits, academic centers, and funders.
• Identify gaps in the ecosystem and develop new initiative ideas or partnerships.
• Develop and launch new initiatives from zero to one; convene stakeholders as needed.
• Represent the Foundation in external conversations to build credibility and source opportunities.
• Write internal recommendations and strategy memos to support decision-making.
