Harnham, a technology company at the intersection of generative AI and digital content, seeks an Applied AI Researcher to join its growing research and data organization in San Francisco. The role focuses on research, analysis, dataset design, and technical strategy, translating findings into practical data for state-of-the-art models.
You’ll collaborate with researchers, product teams, and stakeholders to shape data-centric AI initiatives.
A technology company operating at the intersection of generative AI and digital content is seeking an Applied AI Researcher to join a growing research and data organization.
The company works with a global network of nearly one million creators and content contributors, providing high-quality datasets used to support the development of advanced AI systems. Current areas of focus include image generation, video generation, 3D content, and creative design applications.
As generative models continue to evolve, strong performance increasingly depends on the quality, structure, and diversity of training data. A dedicated research and data team is responsible for identifying where leading models struggle and designing datasets intended to improve performance in those areas. Work produced by the team helps bridge the gap between advances in AI research and the practical data required to support them.
The environment is highly collaborative and brings together researchers, product leaders, dataset specialists, and commercial stakeholders working toward a common goal: building better data for generative AI.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. Sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card holders).
Visa types not supported include H-1B, H-1B Transfer, F-1 OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, E-3, O-1, L-1, or any other employment authorization requiring current or future employer sponsorship.
Candidates requiring sponsorship now or in the future will not be considered.
The organization is looking for an Applied AI Researcher with experience working on or alongside generative models.
A successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of computer vision, image generation, model evaluation, and the relationship between training data and model performance. The role is centered on understanding how state-of-the-art models behave, identifying their weaknesses, and determining what data could help address those limitations.
Rather than focusing on large-scale model training, the position is focused on research, analysis, dataset design, and technical strategy. Responsibilities span the full process from identifying opportunities for improvement through defining the datasets needed to support those objectives.
The role offers significant visibility and the opportunity to influence how future generative AI systems are developed through a data-centric approach.
A meaningful portion of the role involves translating research into execution, requiring both technical depth and practical decision-making.
Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, including:
Experience gained within research organizations, AI labs, product companies, or academic environments with a strong applied focus will all be considered.
This position is based in San Francisco, California and follows a hybrid work schedule, with approximately three to four days per week spent in the office.
The compensation package for this role includes:
Most AI organizations focus on building models. Far fewer focus on understanding exactly what data those models need next.
This position offers the opportunity to work on some of the most important challenges in generative AI by helping determine how future datasets are designed, structured, and deployed.
Research conducted in this role will directly influence the development of next-generation image and video systems used across the industry.
