Job description

Active Top Secret/SCI clearance preferred. Candidates without an active clearance must be eligible to

obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. U.S. citizenship is required to meet

applicable government security clearance requirements.

PREDICTION is building AI systems for some of the most demanding national security environments in the United States. We are hiring an exceptional AI Research Engineer to join our growing engineering and research team in New York.

This is not a traditional software engineering role and it is not purely academic research. We are looking for someone who can take new ideas in AI and machine learning, test them quickly, improve them, and turn them into systems that work in the real world.

You will work on problems involving multimodal AI, computer vision, video understanding, reasoning, temporal intelligence, sensor data, and large-scale machine learning systems.

What You’ll Do
  • Research, design, and build advanced AI and machine learning systems
  • Develop models that reason across video, images, text, structured data, and other signals
  • Work on computer vision, multimodal models, vision-language models, temporal reasoning, and behavioral understanding
  • Read and implement ideas from the latest AI research and evaluate whether they can solve real operational problems
  • Train, fine-tune, evaluate, and optimize machine learning models
  • Design experiments and rigorous evaluation frameworks for complex real-world datasets
  • Build prototypes quickly and turn successful research into production systems
  • Work closely with engineers, AI researchers, and national security experts
  • Help define PREDICTION’s technical direction as we develop new AI capabilities
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong experience in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, multimodal AI, or related fields
  • Excellent Python and PyTorch skills
  • Experience building and training neural networks, not simply integrating third-party AI APIs
  • Experience with one or more of the following: computer vision, video understanding, VLMs, transformers, multimodal learning, object detection, tracking, temporal modeling, sensor fusion, or LLMs
  • Strong understanding of modern machine learning research and experimentation
  • Ability to move between research, experimentation, and production engineering
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work on difficult, open-ended technical problems
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
Strong Plus
  • Publications at conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, or KDD
  • Experience at an AI research lab, defense technology company, national laboratory, or advanced technology organization
  • Experience with real-time video, edge AI, sensor data, geospatial data, autonomous systems, or intelligence applications
  • Experience deploying ML models into production or resource-constrained environments
  • Active or previous U.S. government security clearance
Who You Are

You are curious, technical, and highly driven.

You enjoy reading a new paper and asking, “Can we actually make this work?”

You are comfortable operating without a predefined solution. You can move quickly, run experiments, challenge assumptions, and build.

You want your work to have a real-world mission and you want significant ownership over what you create.
