Job summary

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University seeks an AI Red Team Engineer on the AI Security team to advance adversary emulation and capability development for national security partners.

Experts in offensive cyber and AI security will plan red team operations across Windows and Linux, write tools, and travel to SEI offices and partner sites as needed. Strong communication and mentoring are valued assets.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in a technical field with years of experience as outlined.
• Hands-on penetration testing, red teaming, or exploit development experience.
• Experience with at least one command-and-control framework (Cobalt Strike, Sliver).
• Proficiency in Python, C, and BASH; willingness to learn PowerShell.
• Reverse engineering tools such as Ghidra or IDA Pro are preferred.
• Strong TCP/IP knowledge and ability to analyze network protocols with Wireshark.

Responsibilities

• Red team real-world AI-enabled systems in support of national security objectives.
• Develop new TTPs for attacking AI-enabled systems to improve defenders.
• Write tools in Python, PowerShell, C, and BASH for red team ops.
• Represent CERT portfolio and communicate with external partners and internal teams.
