Job summary

Chewy is building an AI-focused team within Supply Chain Operations to create products and platforms that help teams work smarter and automate repetitive work. We are seeking a Software Engineer I to help build applications that bring AI into employees’ workflows, with interfaces, backend services, and integrations.

You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers, use AI-assisted development tools, and contribute to features used across Chewy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
1–2 years of software development experience; internships and co-ops count.
Proficiency in Python, Java, or TypeScript, and familiarity with APIs and SQL/NoSQL databases.
Understanding of fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, version control, testing, debugging.
Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools with examples.
Hands-on experience building AI-powered systems and curiosity to solve problems.
Awareness of AI limitations and protecting sensitive information.

Responsibilities

Develop, test, and maintain scoped features across UI, backend, and APIs under guidance.
Help build AI-powered experiences for knowledge discovery, analytics, and workflow automation.
Integrate AI services and enterprise APIs with secure, reliable patterns.
Collaborate with engineers and product partners to understand requirements and feedback.
Monitor and troubleshoot applications, building familiarity with production systems.
