Job summary

Sage Care, a fast-growing healthcare startup in Palo Alto, seeks an experienced ML engineer to own the knowledge encoding for our AI-driven care navigation platform. You’ll translate real patient data and medical diagnoses into encoded representations that power routing decisions.

You will work at the intersection of ML research and software engineering, building core components that map complex queries to providers, body systems, and urgencies while collaborating with medical experts to improve

Qualifications

• 7+ years of ML engineering experience.
• Experience with foundational ML models (e.g. learned decision trees, deep learning, and reinforcement learning).
• Strong backend engineering skills and systems thinking
• Experience turning research or novel techniques into testable prototypes.
• Experience collaborating with medical professionals to encode knowledge for routing.

Responsibilities

• Build models mapping complex queries and symptoms to urgency classifiers, providers, and specialties.
• Build learned decision trees to infer necessary follow-up questions to gain more insight.
• Leverage insights from real protocols and SOPs to improve triage logic.
• Work with medical professionals to build representations of how queries map to body systems and restrictions.
• Develop self-learning models and metrics to improve over time.
