Job summary

QP Group in San Francisco is seeking an AI Neuroscientist to serve as the scientific authority on ground truth. You will define expert neuroscience reasoning and judge AI conclusions against lab meeting, peer review, or go/no-go criteria.

You will design tasks across workflows, curate multimodal data, and work with software engineers to translate scientific judgment into new AI workflows. A PhD/MD-PhD and publication record are required, with hands-on data analysis across modalities.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Hands-on research with a publication record (first-author preferred)
  • First-hand analysis of raw data in at least two modalities, such as in vivo ephys, patch-clamp, Neuropixels, calcium imaging, EEG/sEEG, neuroimaging, omics or quantitative behaviour
  • Deep expertise in one area, with fluency across molecular, cellular, circuit and behavioural levels
  • Strong experimental design and statistics
  • Regular use of AI agents, with the judgement to spot reasoning that’s technically correct but scientifically unsound
  • Academic, biotech and pharma backgrounds all welcome; you don’t need to be a software engineer

Responsibilities

  • Design realistic research tasks across the workflow, from hypothesis and model-system choice through experimental design, data processing and inference
  • Write gold-standard answers with the rationale an experienced neuroscientist would defend
  • Curate multi-modal data across normal function and disease: electrophysiology, calcium imaging, EEG/MRI, single-cell and spatial omics, histopathology and behaviour
  • Interrogate agent reasoning step by step, pinpoint where it fails and what an expert would do instead
  • Work with software engineers to turn your scientific judgement into new workflows

Job description

Description

I'm partnered with a venture-backed AI company building rigorous scientific benchmarks for AI agents in biology. They work with frontier AI labs and pharma to measure whether agents can handle real research workflows: the messy, multi-layer reasoning that matters in the field.

They're hiring AI Neuroscientists to be the scientific authority on ground truth. This means defining what expert neuroscience reasoning looks like, and judging where AI conclusions sound fluent and textbook-correct but wouldn't survive lab meeting, peer review or a go/no-go decision.

What you'll do
  • Design realistic research tasks across the workflow, from hypothesis and model-system choice through experimental design, data processing and inference
What they're looking for
  • PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Hands-on research with a publication record (first-author preferred)
  • First-hand analysis of raw data in at least two modalities, such as in vivo ephys, patch-clamp, Neuropixels, calcium imaging, EEG/sEEG, neuroimaging, omics or quantitative behaviour
  • Deep expertise in one area, with fluency across molecular, cellular, circuit and behavioural levels
  • Strong experimental design and statistics
  • Regular use of AI agents, with the judgement to spot reasoning that’s technically correct but scientifically unsound
  • Academic, biotech and pharma backgrounds all welcome; you don't need to be a software engineer
The package
  • $120k-$180k+ OTE
  • Full-time, on your own schedule
  • Remote anywhere, or onsite in San Francisco
