Job summary

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring an AI & National Security Lead based in Washington, DC to analyze and shape policy at the intersection of AI and global security. You will work with policymakers, industry, and researchers to assess risks from AI, bio and nuclear technologies, develop briefing materials, and advocate for responsible policy and governance.

This role reports to the Head of US Policy and requires a strong track record in public speaking, policy engagement, and scholarly

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in National Security Studies, Public Policy, or International Affairs.
• 1 year of professional experience researching existential risks from AI, biological, and/or nuclear technologies.
• 1 year of experience engaging with key policy stakeholders on AI safety issues, such as federal lawmakers and agency officials.
• 1 year of experience in public speaking and/or media engagement.
• Publication of at least one scholarly article on emerging technology risks.

Responsibilities

• Analyze AI and national security risks and mitigate AI-related risks.
• Monitor, analyze, and respond to AI policy developments.
• Create informational materials and briefings for policymakers and media.
• Appear on panels and brief government and media.
• Identify opportunities to drive policy change via events and summits.
• Craft policies and executive orders to balance benefits and risks of emerging tech.
• Support grantmaking by evaluating proposals and funding those aligning with FLI objectives.
