Job summary

Penn State University invites an undergraduate student to join the Visualization and Decision Support Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) for an AI/ML data preparation internship. You will gain hands‑on experience with labeling diverse datasets and contribute to AI/ML research supporting Navy/DoD/IC applications.

You will work up to 20 hours per week in fall and spring and up to 40 hours per week in the summer, with on‑site duties in State College, PA.

This **fall/spring** internship will concentrate on gaining hands-on experience in AI/ML data preparation and contributing to meaningful research**ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.****Typical focus areas include:*** Label and annotate diverse datasets with a primary focus on geospatial data such as tracks, images, video, text, and sensor data* Support AI/ML model development for Navy, Department of Defense (DoD), and Intelligence Community (IC) applications* Utilize industry-standard and custom labeling tools while collaborating with AI/ML researchers and engineers to understand requirements and contribute to data quality assurance processes**Students majoring in the following fields are encouraged to apply:*** Undergraduate students in a STEM major (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Information Sciences, or related fields)**Interest Skills/Experience areas include:*** Drive to learn and grow in the AI/ML field* Commitment to data quality* Strong attention to detail**Preferred but not required:*** Interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science* Familiarity with geospatial concepts or mapping technologies* Previous experience with data analysis or annotation at any level**You will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours/week over the summer.
