Job summary

Stanford Health Care is seeking a Product Engineer – AI/ML to bridge strategy, hands-on development, and deployed AI delivery. You’ll work with clinicians to identify challenges, prototype solutions, and drive 0→1 implementation with production-grade code, AI workflows, and governance integration.

You will collaborate with Data Scientists and Platform Engineers to ensure scalable, compliant AI that delivers measurable impact across care delivery and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Master’s degree preferred.
• 3–5+ years of progressive experience in data science, software engineering, applied AI engineering, or technical product development.
• Experience in healthcare, health tech, or complex regulated enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Partner directly with operational and clinical teams to identify root-cause challenges.
• Design, build, and iterate on prototypes using Python, APIs, LLM orchestration frameworks, and retrieval systems.
• Evaluate bottlenecks to determine automation, rule-based logic, or generative AI approaches.
• Balance model accuracy, latency, maintainability, and operational costs.
• Integrate prototypes with health system data stores, APIs, and workflow tools.
• Collaborate with Data Science to pass solutions through evaluation harnesses.
• Contribute to test suites to mitigate model hallucinations and errors.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and institutional AI governance standards.
• Transition validated prototypes to enterprise-grade platforms.
