Job summary

DIRECTV is offering a Summer Intern position in its Business division, based in Clarksburg, MD, focused on AI/ML projects that enhance customer experience. You will work with the Product Development team to build tools for video analysis and search, using Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and OpenAI API.

The program lasts 10 weeks, requiring 3–5 days per week in the office and US work authorization. Eligible students will gain hands-on experience across the full ML lifecycle and model evaluation.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python and ML ecosystem with reproducible training/evaluation scripts.
• Assist in selecting ML approaches (supervised/unsupervised/deep learning/reinforcement) based on data and problem type.
• Support end-to-end model development lifecycle: data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction/selection, training and validation.
• Build and benchmark baseline models in Python (e.g., linear regression, decision trees, SVM) for tasks.
• Operate Linux/Android; use Claude Code and OpenAI API.
• Apply unsupervised techniques (clustering, PCA, association rules) on unlabeled data.
• Address overfitting and bias-variance during tuning.
• Evaluate models with accuracy/precision/recall/MSE and define suitable metrics.
• Experiment with ensembles (bagging/boosting/random forests) to improve accuracy.
• Prototype CNNs/RNNs/Transformers with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Explore generative AI setups (transformers, GANs) for synthetic data.
• Collaborate across teams; strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI and ML tools for DIRECTV’s business needs.
• Contribute to an AI-powered media intelligence platform analyzing video content.
• Work with video metadata, captions, transcripts, and AI/ML models for search and summarization.
• Evaluate AI models, build data pipelines, explore embeddings and semantic search.
• Prototype tools or dashboards to demonstrate new media intelligence use cases.
