Job summary

BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in Novato, CA, offers a Summer Internship in Global External Operations (GEO) focused on applying AI to contract manufacturing.

Over 10–12 weeks, interns will identify high-impact AI use cases, build prototypes, and work with our teams to create value in drug production. You will develop Python-based solutions, analyze data with SQL, and learn regulatory considerations while collaborating across functions.

Qualifications

• Exceptional Python and SQL, including experience with data manipulation and analysis.
• Hands-on experience with LLM prompt engineering and MCP-based data integrations.
• Ability to work independently and translate ambiguous business problems into technical approaches.
• Strong communication skills with an ability to present technical work to non-technical stakeholders.
• Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week.
• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at a U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program.
• Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles.

Responsibilities

• Assess potential high-impact AI use cases across the contract manufacturing network.
• Develop workflows and prompts using AI platforms (Claude, GPT, etc.).
• Build Python prototypes for AI applications and automation.
• Evaluate AI tools for pharmaceutical manufacturing with regulatory and governance considerations.
• Present findings and recommendations to the team.
