Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to advance AI-native silicon and datacenter systems. You will design and execute test plans for high-performance hardware, focusing on reliability and scalability, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and firmware teams.

Strong scripting and lab automation skills are essential. You will work with experts across lab operations, manage test data, interpret results, and drive improvements in signal integrity, thermal performance, and interconnects

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry experience testing or supporting hardware design teams for datacenter applications.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, analyzers, and other test instruments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, power and thermal testing methodologies.
  • Experience with SPI, I2C, USB, DDRx, and Datacenter Ethernet interface characterization.
  • Experience with Cadence Allegro and automation/scripting.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and execute test plans to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of datacenter hardware.
  • Collaborate with hardware design, manufacturing, firmware, and vendors to identify and resolve issues affecting power, thermal, and interconnects.
  • Develop automation scripts (Python/Bash) to streamline testing processes.
  • Maintain and operate lab equipment and measurement systems (oscilloscopes, chambers, cooling systems).
  • Document results, report defects, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
