Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a systems software engineer to drive the bringup of AI silicon from first power-on to a production-ready system capable of running production-representative models. You will define software-driven tests for compute, memory, interconnect, and I/O, and build diagnostics, automation, and observability to pinpoint issues quickly.

This role sits at the center of silicon, firmware, platform, and workload teams.

Qualifications

• Strong systems programming experience in C, C++, Rust, Python or comparable low-level environments.
• Experience bringing up or validating complex silicon, accelerators, servers, or hardware-software systems.
• Deep understanding of computer architecture and subsystem behavior (compute, memory, interconnect, I/O).

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end software bringup and validation strategy for new silicon and first-party systems.
• Define software-driven test coverage across compute, memory, interconnect, I/O, and system interactions.
• Build diagnostics, test automation, telemetry, and regression infrastructure.
• Lead bringup from initial silicon arrival through board and system integration and model execution.
• Design stress tests to characterize reliability, performance, and stability.
• Translate architecture specifications into measurable acceptance criteria and pass/fail signals.
• Debug complex hardware-software failures and coordinate fixes across multiple teams.
