Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher I to advance AI foundations and reinforcement learning for personalized banking experiences. You will partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products at scale.

The role focuses on building AI foundation models, evaluating state-of-the-art methods, and translating research into practical customer-facing solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams across Capital One.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related field, or MS with 2+ years of applied research experience.
• Strong track record in applied research and high-quality publications is preferred.
• Experience delivering AI foundation models at scale and with open-source tools.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that impact customer experiences.
• Leverage PyTorch, HuggingFace, and cloud tooling to build and evaluate models.
• Build AI foundation models from design to training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
• Translate complex research work into tangible business outcomes and presentations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to and lead research initiatives driving business value.
