Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 4 (AI Foundations, VLM) to advance real-world AI systems across banking products. You will collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to build scalable foundation models and apply state-of-the-art ML to customer experiences across large data sets.

You will explore PyTorch-based workflows, AWS Ultraclusters, and HuggingFace while contributing to research publications and internal technology reports.

Qualifications

• Currently holds or is pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields with start date eligibility.
• MS in related field plus 2 years of Applied Research experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for customer interactions.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, Lightning to explore data insights.
• Build AI foundation models from design to training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Advance applied research translating AI developments into customer experiences.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
• Prepare internal reports or conference submissions with senior researchers.
