Job summary

OpenAI Foundation is seeking an AI Deployment Engineer to guide grantees in identifying and scaling practical AI use cases. You’ll work with nonprofit leaders and technical teams to move ideas from prototype to production, selecting the right tools and architectures to fit their missions.

Based in San Francisco with a hybrid model (3 days in the office), this early technical hire will help shape grant design, build reusable deployment tools, and translate field lessons into scalable guidance for

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer in a customer-facing setting.
• Strong knowledge of AI/LLM tools and real-world applications.
• Ability to translate organizational goals into concrete technical plans.
• Willingness to learn quickly in unfamiliar domains.
• Ability to drive multiple projects with independence.

Responsibilities

• Partner with nonprofit grantees to identify practical AI use cases and deployment plans.
• Advise on tool selection, implementation architecture, data handling, and change management.
• Prototype demonstrations and lightweight production systems for AI deployments.
• Pressure-test technical assumptions during grant design and due diligence.
• Develop reusable tools to deploy AI responsibly in nonprofits.
• Synthesize grantee insights into feedback for product, tooling, and grantmaking strategy.
• Build relationships across nonprofit and philanthropy ecosystems as a trusted technical advisor.
