Job summary

Avalara is seeking a Software Architect to define and drive the architecture for Avalara Tax Research (ATR), their self-service tax platform. This role will shape the scaling of ATR across product, platform, and AI-enabled experiences, prioritizing reliability and performance.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years’ experience in software architecture, SaaS systems, and AI integration, leading efforts to enhance product delivery and improve architectural standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant work experience aligned to the scope and level of this role.
• Experience designing and evolving SaaS systems in production.
• Demonstrated applied AI experience with AI-enabled product architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the end-to-end architecture for ATR across various layers.
• Drive decisions on service boundaries and APIs to improve delivery speed.
• Mentor engineers and technical leads to raise architectural maturity.
