Job summary

Cengage Group in United States is seeking a Software Engineer to join a cross-functional team delivering an AI-first roadmap for learning platforms. You will design features across backend Java/Spring and frontend React applications, build RESTful APIs, and help modernize the platform while collaborating with product, UX, QA, and other engineers.

Ideal candidates have 2–5+ years in full-stack development, strong fundamentals, and experience with AWS/Azure/GCP and containerization.

Qualifications

• Familiar with AI/ML concepts, generative AI, and LLM-based tools.
• Experience integrating AI-powered services (APIs for generative AI or intelligent workflows).
• Applied AI tools in engineering workflows for code generation, refactoring, tests, and CI/CD.
• Experience with agentic AI workflows using LLMs to perform multi-step tasks and tool invocations.
• Experience building and consuming APIs integrating legacy with modern systems.
• Familiar with AWS, Azure or GCP and containerization (Docker; Kubernetes a plus).
• Experience developing full-stack apps with Java (Spring) and modern JavaScript (ReactJS).
• Strong fundamentals: testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Experience in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).
• Strong collaboration and communication across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end features across backend services (Java/Spring) and frontend (React).
• Build scalable RESTful APIs to support frontend functionality.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and engineers to deliver cohesive solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable code with modern frontend patterns and scalable backend practices.
• Troubleshoot UI, API, and performance issues across the stack.
• Contribute to platform modernization, including frontend architecture evolution.
