Dallas City Hall is seeking a Police Reports Representative I for the Dallas Police (Civil Service). This entry-level position handles non-emergency calls, writes qualifying police reports over the phone, and assists patrols by providing accurate data with AI-assisted tools.

You will enter information into law enforcement systems, assign offense codes, and coordinate with Dallas Fire, Animal Control, and other agencies while complying with city, state, and national guidelines.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of crime intervention principles.
• Familiarity with the relationship between police and other departments/agencies.
• Ability to apply policies, procedures, and guidelines to various situations.
• Knowledge of Dallas area streets and highways.
• Ability to assist and reassure callers in crisis.
• Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
• Understanding of offense reporting guidelines and the Texas Penal Code.
• Strong decision-making abilities based on department policies and laws.
• Proficiency with AI tools for report development and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Receives calls at the service desk and interviews complainants for accurate reports.
• Communicates clearly in writing and verbally.
• Accurately enters detailed information into law enforcement systems.
• Routes offense information to appropriate departments swiftly.
• Prepares reports and forms related to calls, responses, and arrests.
• Uses AI tools to develop and refine reports with high accuracy.
• Handles alarm system calls and determines police response needs.
• Assigns offense codes for proper filing and statistics.
• Review online reports for accuracy and completeness and inform citizens as needed.
• Distributes reports to appropriate police sections for investigations.
• Codes reports using the predefined coding system.
• Reviews Dallas Online Reporting System for accuracy and route corrections.
• Sorts and distributes reports to ensure proper distribution.
• Enter uniform crime reporting code numbers for national stats.
• Perform additional tasks as required.
