Job summary

Clera in San Francisco is seeking a software engineer to join a small, fast-moving core product team at a pre-seed AI startup building agentic systems that automate complex workflows across regulated domains. You will own meaningful slices from data model to deployment and ship AI-driven experiences that create real user impact.

You will design and maintain agentic systems, own RAG pipelines and tooling, implement orchestration and memory components, and develop evaluation and safety

Qualifications

• 2–8 years of software engineering experience shipping user-facing or backend products.
• Hands-on production experience deploying LLM-based services, including prompt design, orchestration, and tool integration.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript/React, plus cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and databases.
• Experience with RAG patterns, vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval pipelines.
• Experience building tests, evaluations, and monitoring for AI systems in production.
• Experience designing API-driven, high-throughput systems and real-time features.
• Familiarity with agent/workflow frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI) and orchestration tools (e.g., Temporal, Trigger).
• Background in multi-tenant or enterprise-ready systems, or experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, fintech, or legal, is a plus.
• Ownership mindset — comfortable driving features from conception through deployment and monitoring with a pragmatic, user-centric approach.

Responsibilities

About The Role

Join a small, fast-moving core product team at a pre-seed AI startup building agentic systems that automate complex, multi-step workflows across regulated and enterprise domains. You'll own meaningful slices of the product end-to-end — from data model to deployment — and work directly with founders to ship AI-driven experiences that create real user impact.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain agentic systems automating multi-step workflows across healthcare, legal, fintech, logistics, and compliance domains.
• Own production retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and retrieval infrastructure, including vector databases, embeddings, and indexing for domain-specific search at scale.
• Implement multi-agent orchestration, tool-calling, memory, and reasoning components to deliver robust AI-driven user experiences.
• Develop evaluation and safety infrastructure to measure model performance, surface regressions, and enforce enterprise-level trust and reliability.
• Ship full-stack AI products from MVP to enterprise-grade, covering API design, data modeling, frontend and backend code, CI/CD, monitoring, and testing.
• Collaborate with founders, product, and design to prioritize work, define success metrics, and iterate based on user feedback and telemetry.

What We're Looking For

• 2–8 years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping user-facing or backend products.
• Hands-on production experience deploying LLM-based services, including prompt design, orchestration, and tool integration.
• Full-stack proficiency in Python and TypeScript/React (or equivalent), plus experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and relational or NoSQL databases.
• Solid working knowledge of RAG patterns, vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval pipelines.
• Experience building automated tests, evaluations, and monitoring for AI systems in production environments.
• Experience designing API-driven, high-throughput systems and real-time product features.
• Familiarity with agent or workflow frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI) and orchestration tools (e.g., Temporal, Trigger) is a strong plus.
• Background in multi-tenant or enterprise-ready systems, or experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, fintech, or legal, is a plus.
• Ownership mindset — comfortable driving features from conception through deployment and monitoring with a pragmatic, user-centric approach.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $180,000 – $400,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
