Job summary

ON.energy seeks a hands-on AI engineer to own production AI systems, from prototype to deployment, at a fast-growing energy-tech company in Houston. You will partner with IT, business units, and external vendors to shape the AI enablement roadmap and deliver practical, secure solutions.

You’ll work three days a week in the office with flexible remote days, owning delivery dates, evaluating tools, and coordinating with stakeholders across engineering, operations, HR, finance, and commercial.

Qualifications

• CS or related technical background with production AI/ML experience.
• Portfolio of projects showing end-to-end delivery from idea to running system.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: VCS, testing, reviews, deployment.
• Working knowledge of modern AI tooling: LLM APIs, RAG, eval, agents, vector stores.
• Strong written and verbal communication with non-technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Build production AI systems end to end from prototype to deploy and monitor.
• Collaborate across stakeholders to translate workflows into shippable tools.
• Write evaluation harnesses, prompts, retrieval logic and integration code.
• Establish reusable patterns for governance, data access and deploy practices.
• Partner with vendors and integrate delivered platforms into our stack.
• Contribute to technical roadmap and make build vs buy decisions.
• Scope new use cases with the Program Director and justify approaches.
