Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Software Engineer for the Starshield Products team in Washington, DC. You will own end-to-end service reliability for AI integrations with government systems, respond to outages, and work with product, research, and governance teams to ensure ethical, transparent AI deployments.

You will tackle critical issues for key government customers, contribute to observability, address tech debt, and influence strategic investments while operating within ITAR requirements.

Qualifications

• 1+ years hands-on software engineering building scalable systems, APIs, or AI/ML apps.
• Experience with large language models, generative AI, or agentic systems.
• Experience with enterprise apps serving >10,000 users across geographies and time zones.
• Familiarity with federal civilian agencies or regulated industries.
• Strong ability to translate stakeholder needs into concrete tech solutions.
• Ability to write clean, high-performance code under tight timelines.
• Excellent communication to explain complex concepts to non-technical partners.
• Experience with cloud platforms and containerization (AWS, GCP, Azure; Docker/Kubernetes) and API orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Own health, performance, and stability of integrations between frontier AI models and government systems.
• Invest in documentation, metrics, monitors, and other observability tools.
• Respond to outages and drive lasting fixes during on-call rotations.
• Partner with agency stakeholders and product teams to gather requirements and iterate.
