Job summary

Extreme Networks, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape the next generation of intelligent networking platforms. You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, real-time data processing systems and AI-enabled experiences across enterprise networks.

The role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and mentoring engineers, with a strong focus on reliability, security, and performance in demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years across the full software development lifecycle.
• 8+ years of programming experience (Python/Java/Go/C++).
• 5+ years leading design/architecture of large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms.
• Experience in real-time microservices, stream processing, distributed data platforms, or AI/agentic systems.
• Experience designing scalable, highly-available, low-latency systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading teams.
• Master’s or PhD in a related discipline or equivalent.
• Experience with generative AI or agentic systems and distributed data technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of core platforms and services processing large volumes of data.
• Architect and guide distributed systems across cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
• Drive safety, observability, and reliability in real-time processing pipelines.
• Collaborate on AI/agentic systems, tools, planning, memory, retrieval, and orchestration.
