Job summary

Simon & Schuster, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Full-Stack .NET Developer to help modernize our core systems. You will replace legacy COBOL batch programs with modern .NET services and SQL solutions, validating changes against the existing system before cutovers.

The role expands to front-end web UI work as workflows migrate away from green-screen interfaces. AI tooling is central to the team, with you reviewing and refining AI-generated code to ensure correctness, performance, and maintainability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional full-stack .NET development.
• Experience using AI tools to assist development with careful validation.
• Strong SQL Server / T-SQL skills, including stored procedures and transactions.
• Back-end service experience with production-grade logging and config management.
• Front-end web development experience with ASP.NET Core or modern JS frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Build modern replacements: .NET worker services, APIs, and T-SQL procedures replacing legacy COBOL batches.
• Review and refine AI-generated code for correctness, performance, and maintainability.
• Implement target architecture patterns including structured logging and telemetry.
• Assist validation and cutover by instrumenting replacements for reconciliation with legacy outputs.
• Resolve complex conversion issues by comparing legacy and modern behavior with legacy specialists.
• Develop front-end web UI components replacing legacy green-screen workflows.
• Contribute to engineering standards and share patterns across packages.
