Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory's High Performance Computing Division seeks an HPC Engineer to modernize how our Workload Management teams work, using AI to make tools, docs, and support more effective. The role sits between infrastructure and end users, building capabilities that increase productivity for both teams and researchers.

The position will be filled at HPC Engineer 2 or 3 level, with responsibilities ranging from developing AI-assisted workflows to owning parts of Slinky/RunAI

Qualifications

• Experience with UNIX/Linux systems administration and command-line tools.
• Experience applying AI/ML tools to practical problems such as documentation or support workflows.
• Experience with containers and container orchestration (OpenShift, Rancher, Kubernetes).
• Scripting ability (Python, Bash) for automation and tool development.
• Excellent written and oral communication across infrastructure and end-user contexts.

Responsibilities

• Identify AI-assisted automation opportunities across workflows and documentation.
• Enable AI workloads on LANL HPC systems and deploy relevant technologies (e.g., RunAI).
• Develop and deploy OpenShift-based tools for users and internal use.
• Provide technical support and documentation and collaborate with vendors and OSS communities.
