Job summary

Basis is seeking a Controller to build our financial systems and operating foundation for the next growth phase. You’ll own accounting integrity and help define how the company earns and spends money, reporting to the Head of Finance.

This role blends technical accounting depth with a systems mindset, redesigning close cycles, spend monitoring, and revenue processes. You’ll partner with Product and Engineering to create AI-enabled, auditable controls as Basis scales.

Qualifications

• 6-12 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge across financial reporting, revenue recognition, accruals, capitalization, equity.
• A systems mindset: translate messy processes into clear workflows, reliable data, scalable operating rhythms.
• Building experience for accounts payable, procurement, expense management, purchasing approvals, vendor commitments, and spend reporting.
• Strong analytical judgment and ability to explain what changed financially and what to do about it.
• Ability to partner with Engineering, Product, Sales, People, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the integrity of our accounting and help us develop a clear, timely understanding of how the company earns and spends money.
• Redesign workflows across close, reconciliations, spend monitoring, reporting, and other core work.
• Determine where AI can own work and where human review matters, keeping systems explainable and auditable as they scale.
• Partner with Product and Engineering, turning internal learnings into better systems, sharper product insight, and an AI-native accounting example.
• Be a steward of an operating model that defines how a modern finance function operates at an AI company.
