Job summary

Berkeley Lab’s Biological Systems and Engineering Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to develop AI-driven predictive models of cellular metabolism and function at the ABPDU' s CIBA Group. The role includes hands-on training in mammalian cell culture at UCLA, with relocation to Berkeley Lab for the remainder of the appointment.

Qualifications

PhD in Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Systems Biology, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or related discipline.
Strong computational and machine learning skills with AI/ML approaches on complex biology data.
Understanding Cell Biology through coursework or wet-lab experience.
Willingness to train onsite at UCLA to acquire wet-lab skills.
Strong analytical skills and sound judgement for method selection.
Excellent written and oral communication, and collaboration across teams.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in multidisciplinary settings.

Responsibilities

Develop ML and deep learning models for AI-driven prediction of cell physiology, metabolism, and function.
Train and validate models with input from the team and experimental data.
Collaborate with UCLA researchers to integrate datasets into predictive models.
Prepare and publish results in peer‑reviewed journals.
Maintain organized laboratory documentation and provide progress updates.
Present findings at conferences and meetings with collaborators.
