Tulip Interfaces in Somerville, MA is seeking an engineer who builds the software that other software runs on. You’ll design robust backend systems and contribute to a platform used by fellow engineers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
• Strong skills in at least one modern backend programming language.
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
• Solid understanding of cloud native or cloud hybrid solutions.
• Product mindset toward internal tooling — you seek out feedback from the engineers using what you build and iterate on it.
• Comfort using AI-powered engineering tools in your day-to-day workflow.

Responsibilities

• Write and maintain clean, high-quality, efficient, and well-tested code that aligns with project specifications.
• Design and implement the abstractions that bridge the gap between software engineering and DevOps.
• Talk to the engineers who use the platform, find where they lose time, and help turn that into prioritized work.
• Partner with Product and Engineering counterparts to build tooling that teams actually adopt.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation that helps engineers self-serve.
• Use AI-assisted tooling and automation workflows to improve developer productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, and strengthen platform reliability.
