ABOUT THE ROLE

Brooksource is seeking an experienced AI Developer to join a growing enterprise AI team in Birmingham, AL, on a fully onsite, contract-to-hire basis. This role is ideal for a strong software engineer—particularly someone with a Java, DB2, and SQL background—who is interested in expanding their experience into Generative AI and modern AI application development. You will work closely with architects, engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders to design, develop, and support scalable AI-powered applications that leverage enterprise data and cutting‑edge AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs). The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in software engineering, be comfortable working with data, and demonstrate a genuine curiosity and willingness to learn and adopt new AI technologies. This position offers hands‑on opportunities to work with Python, LangChain, LangGraph, LLMs, RAG, AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, MCP, Kubernetes, and OpenShift, while leveraging your existing software development and database experience. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment focused on AI innovation and business impact, with opportunities for professional growth and potential for permanent placement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, develop, and support enterprise applications incorporating AI and Generative AI capabilities
• Apply strong software engineering principles using Java, Python, or similar programming languages
• Query, analyze, and work with enterprise data using SQL and DB2
• Build APIs, microservices, and integrations that support AI-powered applications
• Learn and utilize AI frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph to develop agent-based applications and workflows
• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) through platforms such as AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, or similar services
• Develop and support Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows and data integrations
• Explore and implement emerging AI technologies, tools, and frameworks
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions
• Support testing, troubleshooting, monitoring, and production deployments
• Deploy and support containerized applications in Kubernetes or OpenShift environments
• Contribute to development standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering best practices
• Support the adoption of AI observability tools such as LangSmith, Langfuse, Arize, or Datadog
• Participate in building multi-agent AI applications and integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) and other AI tool integrations
• Assist in deploying or hosting open‑source LLMs using vLLM or similar technologies
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices, especially when building enterprise applications in regulated industries

WHAT YOU BRING

• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong experience with Java, Python, or another object-oriented programming language
• Strong SQL skills with the ability to independently query, join, filter, aggregate, and troubleshoot data
• Experience working with DB2 or other relational databases; DB2 experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, enterprise applications, and software engineering best practices
• Demonstrated interest in Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, LLMs, or emerging AI technologies
• Willingness and ability to learn Python and modern AI development frameworks
• Experience working within Agile software development teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred
• Preferred Experience:
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar AI/agent frameworks
• Experience working with LLMs or Generative AI applications
• Experience with AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, or similar enterprise AI platforms
• Experience developing RAG architectures or working with vector databases
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI tool integrations
• Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with AI observability tools such as LangSmith, Langfuse, Arize, or Datadog
• Experience building multi-agent AI applications
• Knowledge of prompt engineering, agent orchestration, and AI application evaluation
• Experience deploying or hosting open‑source LLMs using vLLM or similar technologies
• Experience building enterprise applications in regulated industries
