Job summary

OpenRouter is seeking a Data Scientist to build the intelligence layer powering how developers interact with the world’s largest model marketplace. You’ll turn trillions of generations into actionable product insights and analytics.

You will partner with engineering and product teams to ship features, optimize routing, and surface clear metrics that guide roadmap decisions. This role emphasizes end-to-end ownership and impactful data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience building and shipping production-level data products such as models, classifiers, scoring systems, or automated processes.
• Proven ability to partner with engineering and product teams to convert insights and analytics into customer facing features.
• Strong SQL skills with complex, performant queries against large-scale analytical databases (ClickHouse, BigQuery, or similar).
• Deep fluency with AI and agents; familiarity with LLMs, model evaluation, and prompt engineering.
• Excellent statistical foundations; understanding distributions, causal inference, and experimental design.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve rules, heuristics, and models that drive core model routing and provider routing systems.
• Build analytics products and conduct deep-dive analyses to diagnose usage, issues, and optimize workflows while informing product strategy.
• Design and ship user-facing data features, from classification taxonomies to public rankings pages by use case.
• Define and track product metrics and tie insights to roadmap and architecture decisions.
• Contribute to the data warehouse (dbt, ClickHouse) to ensure scalable analytical foundations.
