Job summary

SpaceXAI in Memphis, TN, seeks an Optical Engineer to own the optical layer of AI compute fabrics. You will design fiber layouts, specify components, verify link budgets, and lead production of a scalable optical plant for AI clusters.

The role requires a physics/engineering background and hands-on testing with fiber/optical equipment; travel to manufacturing/facility sites is expected. On-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/optical engineering, physics, or related field.
• 2+ years in fiber layout, optical design for datacenter/HPC.
• Experience with optical testing and high-speed transceivers.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end optical and fiber design for AI training fabrics.
• Write and verify link budgets for interconnects across fabrics.
• Develop factory tests for optical interconnects and test coverage.
• Select optics, fiber, and connectivity; own vendor bring-up and reliability.
• Deploy and verify optical interconnects in manufacturing lines.
• Lead commissioning, debugging, and failure analysis.
• Advance connectivity toward 800G/1.6T and higher densities.
• Collaborate with mechanical and network teams on cabling and racks.
