Job summary

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to measure how frontier AI models perform real engineering design work. We seek experienced Mechanical CAD, Electronics/PCB, and 3D/Spatial-Temporal engineers to craft realistic, challenging tasks for AI evaluation.

You will design prompts, inputs, and graders, run them against frontier models, and refine until realism wins over difficulty. Rolling applications start now.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on design experience in at least one track (industrial, research lab, or serious freelance work).
• For Mechanical CAD: professional experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FreeCAD or comparable CAD tool.
• Applicants who have shipped real deliverables and can share a design portfolio are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Turn real design work into self-contained tasks: a prompt, input files, and an automated grader.
• Build and iterate on tasks with an AI coding agent and version them in Git.
• Run tasks against frontier models, read transcripts, and close leaks so the task stays hard for the right reasons.
• Pass automated QA and peer review, documenting the rationale behind synthetic data.
• Attend onboarding and calibration sessions.
