Dentons US LLP is seeking an AI Automation Engineer to design and deliver secure, scalable AI-powered solutions that enhance legal and business operations. Working closely with attorneys, practice groups, and business teams, this role will translate operational needs into practical workflows, applications, and integrations using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI services, and Microsoft 365. The ideal candidate combines strong software development expertise with curiosity, sound technical judgment, and an understanding of the confidentiality, privacy, security, and governance requirements of a global law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain AI-augmented workflows, agents, Copilot extensions, plugins, and integrations using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft 365.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and implement secure generative AI solutions for legal and administrative use cases, including document summarization, contract review support, intake automation, and retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Maintain and modernize existing Power Apps and SharePoint solutions, replacing manual or legacy workflows with AI-native automation where appropriate.
  • Partner with attorneys, practice groups, and business teams to identify high-value opportunities, translate requirements into scalable technical solutions, and build proofs of concept before full implementation.
  • Develop and support production-quality code, APIs, integrations, tests, and deployment processes using established software development and version-control practices.
  • Ensure solutions comply with client confidentiality, ethical wall, data privacy, security, responsible AI, and data governance requirements applicable to legal practice.
  • Train and support attorneys, paralegals, and staff in adopting new AI tools and workflows, including developing clear documentation and practical guidance.
  • Monitor developments across the AI and LLM landscape, recommend relevant tools and approaches, and measure and communicate the business impact of implemented solutions.
  • Other duties as required to fully meet the needs of the role.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated skill, with a strong coding foundation beyond low-code/no-code platforms.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD practices, APIs, data structures, integration patterns, and standard software development lifecycle practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse), SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Graph API integrations.
  • Familiarity with Azure AI services, including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, and Azure AI Foundry, as well as prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation architectures.
  • Understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, data privacy, and security requirements in a regulated or legal environment.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a builder’s mindset, with the ability to evaluate multiple LLM ecosystems and use AI coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining sound judgment about code, architecture, and tradeoffs.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple AI development tools or ecosystems, such as Anthropic Claude or OpenAI Codex, for coding assistance, agentic workflows, or document-based applications, a plus.
  • Experience with legal technology platforms, such as iManage, NetDocuments, or document automation tools, and/or prior work in a law firm or professional services environment, a plus.
