The USA TODAY Network is seeking a dynamic and tech-savvy AI-Assisted Reporter with a keen interest in automation tools. This is a fully remote position and can be based anywhere in the continental United States, but preference will be given to candidates in or near Illinois. The successful candidate will utilize AI technology to create content for our news brands while applying traditional journalism skills.

As an AI-Assisted Reporter, you will develop your news and technical skills, managing and utilizing AI technology effectively. This role involves producing a high volume of stories from trusted press releases and similar sources. This is not a beat-reporting position and does not require travel or face-to-face interviews.

The ideal candidate will have basic journalism and phone/videoconference communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for turning around multiple stories a day, ensuring our readers stay informed. Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer pre-employment background check & drug screen.

Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize AI tools to generate content, ensuring accuracy and high standards.
• Conduct interviews and gather information to enrich AI-generated content.
• Collaborate with editors and team members for timely, accurate reporting.
• Continuously learn and implement new AI technologies to enhance reporting efficiency.
• Maintain Gannett’s high standard of journalistic integrity.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of journalistic principles and practices.

Qualifications:

• Some degree of journalism experience (internships considered).
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent field.
• Strong understanding of journalistic principles and practices.
• Excellent knowledge of relevant media law and adherence to the Editors’ Code of Conduct.
• Creativity and innovation, with a willingness to experiment with new approaches.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Basic interview skills, with some experience in a newsroom or similar environment.
• Strong writing and editing abilities, with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with AI tools and eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Excellent time management skills.
• A proactive, self-motivated attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
