Job summary

Onto Innovation designs and manufactures inspection and metrology tools used by leading chipmakers. You will lead the AI strategy for metrology, architect the system, and build agent-based workflows that speed up setup and improve measurement quality.

You will mentor engineers, ensure secure and auditable AI integrations, and deploy on‑premises with strict data controls while collaborating with system engineers and applications teams to solve real manufacturing problems.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in CS/EE/Physics/Applied Math or equivalent hands-on.
• 6+ years of applied ML/AI with 3+ years in technical leadership.
• Hands-on depth in LLM-based systems: agents, tool calling, evaluation.
• Strong ML foundations: deep learning in PyTorch, regression, calibrated uncertainty.
• Experience with MLOps stack: reproducible training, versioning, CI/CD, monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Define the AI strategy and reference architecture for metrology.
• Build production code — prototypes, agent workflows, evaluation tooling, and systems.
• Design agent workflows for the metrology lifecycle, including setup and root-cause triage.
• Ground agents in fab knowledge with provenance and tool data.
• Design for trust with human-in-the-loop, audit trails, and uncertainty handling.
• Deploy on-premises and air-gapped inference with latency and data-control considerations.
• Lead technically: code reviews, mentoring, and improving software quality.
