Job summary

Hipp is seeking an Agent Engineer to build intelligent agents that help healthcare practices manage billing, compliance, and day-to-day operations. You will own agent systems end to end—from workflow discovery and architecture through tool integration, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate with billing experts, customers, product managers, and engineers to translate complex processes into reliable autonomous workflows.

Qualifications

• Experience building AI agents or agentic applications.
• Experience with tools, APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, or multi-step reasoning.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and production-quality code.
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or similar backend languages.
• Experience designing and integrating APIs, databases, async jobs, and services.
• Understand where LLMs are effective and when to use deterministic logic.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship production AI agents for billing, compliance, and practice-management workflows.
• Translate complex, multi-step processes into reliable agent workflows.
• Build tools and integrations for interaction with billing systems, data, APIs, queues, and services.
• Develop orchestration patterns for planning, routing, tool selection, retries, escalation, and human review.
• Create evaluation suites measuring accuracy, reliability, latency, and cost.
• Establish guardrails and approval mechanisms for sensitive actions.
• Investigate production issues using traces, logs, and tool-call data.
• Collaborate with billing experts, customers, PMs, and engineers to optimize workflows.
