Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of an accredited Turfgrass Management Program.
  • Requisite physical ability for standing and lifting up to 50 lbs, with early starts.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work weekends/holidays.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Passion for golf and course maintenance fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing members with exceptional course and grounds conditions.
  • Perform daily golf course preparation and setup.
  • Participate in maintenance including mowing greens, tees, fairways, roughs, divot filling, aerification, verticutting, and related practices.
  • Monitor turf and soil moisture levels and assist irrigation maintenance.
  • Assist with chemical and fertilizer calibrations under supervision.
  • Support topdressing programs and tree/landscape maintenance.
  • Contribute to construction and improvement projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent and Director of Grounds.

Position Title: Agronomy Intern

Compensation:$19.50/hour

Our Agronomy Internship offers opportunities for individuals looking to build a career in the golf course and turfgrass industry. Interns will work closely with our Agronomy professionals, gaining practical knowledge across all facets of maintenance and operations. From daily course preparation and agronomic practices to water management and equipment operation, interns can expect to develop a comprehensive understanding of the skills, techniques, and attention to detail required to maintain exceptional playing conditions.

Interns will meet often with the Director of Grounds, Golf Course Superintendent, and other members of our turf team to discuss the decisions and strategies that drive our operation. We will review cultural and maintenance practices, pesticide and fertility programs, water management, and the importance of communication and collaboration with the Equipment & Shop Manager regarding equipment use. Interns should expect to be cross trained in all areas of maintenance and operations, providing a well-rounded foundation for a successful career in turf management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in providing membership with exceptional course and grounds conditions.
  • Perform daily golf course preparation and setup.
  • Participate in all aspects of golf course maintenance including mowing greens, tees, fairways and roughs, divot filling, aerification, verticutting, and other cultural practices.
  • Monitor and manage turf and soil moisture levels.
  • Learn and assist with irrigation maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Apply and keep records of chemical and fertilizer calibrations with proper supervision.
  • Assist with topdressing applications and programming.
  • Learn and practice tree care, landscape maintenance, and hazard maintenance.
  • Participate in as-assigned construction and improvement projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Director of Grounds.
Required Skills

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to arrive at work in the early morning hours, work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be able to work outside for 10 - 12 hour days.
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks associated with golf course maintenance.
