The State of Georgia’s Department of Agriculture is seeking a part-time Agriculture Animal Industry – Meat Inspector 1 to learn and perform meat inspection duties under supervision.

This temporary role is up to 29 hours per week and requires a personal vehicle for travel within counties. Completion of USDA inspection methods training after hire is required; benefits are not provided.

• Minimum qualifications include a technical degree in agriculture or related field, or HS diploma with related experience, or two years of college with chemistry/life sciences and related experience.
• USDA Inspection Methods training required after hire.
• Temporary/hourly position with no benefits and less than 30 hours per week.

• Learn to inspect red meat, red meat products, and processing facilities for compliance with standards.
• Perform ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections under supervision.
• Provide general support to the Meat Inspection Division; travel 0–25% as required.

Incumbents must work in adjoining areas as program requirements dictate, although travel outside of the assigned area is expected to be less than 25% of total travel.This position will provide general support services to the Meat Inspection Division.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Support Services Worker – Vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited college; or a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in the area of assignment; or two years of college which included 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences and one year of directly related experience; or two years of experience at a lower level (RCT090) or position equivalent.NOTE :The selected candidate must complete USDA Inspection Methods training at the first available opportunity after being hired.This is a temporary/hourly position.Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:State or Federal Meat Inspection or Food Inspection experience.Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in Animal Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or a closely related field; andWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.Please note: Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to respond to phone / email inquiries regarding application status.
