Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Agricultural Engineer to join our client’s East London team. The role focuses on designing and implementing agricultural machinery, irrigation, and processing technologies to boost efficiency and sustainability on farms in the Eastern Cape.

You will work on mechanization, irrigation, and on-farm processing projects, collaborating with farmers and agronomists to deliver practical, safe, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with agricultural specialization.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in agricultural engineering or related design/development.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other design tools.
• Strong knowledge of farm machinery, irrigation systems, structures, and processing technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and project management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test new agricultural machinery and equipment.
• Improve efficiency and functionality of existing farm machinery and systems.
• Design and manage irrigation, drainage, and water management systems.
• Develop on-farm processing, storage, and handling solutions.
• Ensure designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with farmers, agronomists, and stakeholders to understand needs and provide technical solutions.
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
